About CEERI

The Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI) is a premier research and development institution under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India. Established in 1953 in Pilani, Rajasthan, CEERI has been at the forefront of electronics research in India for nearly seven decades.

Our institute specializes in cutting-edge research in electronics, microelectronics, semiconductor devices, industrial automation, and information technology. With state-of-the-art laboratories and a team of dedicated scientists and engineers, CEERI has contributed significantly to India's technological self-reliance in critical electronic components and systems.

Located in the educational hub of Pilani, CEERI collaborates extensively with Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS Pilani), other academic institutions, and industry partners to translate research into practical applications that benefit society and industry.

Our History & Milestones

1953 - Foundation

CEERI was established in Pilani as the Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute under CSIR, focusing on vacuum tube technology and basic electronics research.

1962 - Semiconductor Research

Initiated India's first semiconductor device research program, leading to the development of early silicon transistors and diodes for communication systems.

1975 - Microelectronics Laboratory

Established one of India's first microelectronics laboratories with cleanroom facilities for integrated circuit research and development.

1988 - Industrial Automation Division

Created the Industrial Automation Division to develop computer-controlled systems for manufacturing and process industries.

2001 - MEMS Research Center

Established Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) research center for sensor and actuator development.

2015 - Smart Sensors Initiative

Launched national initiative for development of smart sensors for IoT applications in partnership with industry.

2020 - Advanced Semiconductor Lab

Commissioned new laboratory for advanced semiconductor materials and device research including wide bandgap semiconductors.

Developing advanced control systems, PLCs, SCADA systems, and robotics for smart manufacturing. Our research focuses on Industry 4.0 technologies including cyber-physical systems, digital twins, and AI-driven process optimization for increased productivity and quality in manufacturing sectors.

Technology transfer meeting at CEERI

Technology Transfer & Industry Collaboration

CEERI actively collaborates with industry partners to translate research into commercial products and solutions. Our technology transfer office facilitates licensing of patents, know-how, and collaborative R&D projects.

CEERI offers licensing opportunities for over 50 patented technologies in areas including semiconductor devices, sensor systems, industrial controllers, and communication systems. We provide technical support for technology adoption and customization.

Inquire About Licensing

We partner with companies on joint R&D projects with funding support from government schemes. Current collaborative projects include smart sensor networks for agriculture, industrial IoT platforms, and electric vehicle power systems.

CEERI provides testing, calibration, and certification services for electronic components and systems through our NABL-accredited laboratories. Services include environmental testing, EMI/EMC testing, and semiconductor device characterization.
